So, I’m pretty sure I’m not cut out for journalism. It’s just too hectic and the digging/research makes me feel like I’m invading someone’s privacy. I feel like PR is different because the people are usually willing to work with me and we’re working towards a common goal.
That doesn’t mean I’m not happy when my writing is noticed, though. In my news writing class yesterday, we had an in-class assignment that I didn’t really feel up to doing.
The assignment was to take a whole bunch of fictional facts and quotes that the teacher gave us and turn it into a news story. I don’t know why, but I felt like my brain was crapping out on me, so I ended up not writing that much. I guess it was for the best, though, as my teacher chose to put my short article on her blog as an example of the class assignment~! (Well, at least I hope it’s for the best – is there something wrong with it that I didn’t notice? And yes, I did get the facts straight – they were humorous puns and facts to begin with.)
The post is for February 14, and here’s her blog: http://spearszacharias.bravejournal.com/
I must admit that I do have considerable respect for her, and no, that’s not flattery or because she liked my writing. She really takes a stand for what she believes in, she’s got a wicked sense of humor, and a Southern accent. Yes, I’m aware that those don’t all go together, but I’m learning quite a bit in that class and I like her teaching style.
And yes, learning IS good for you.
Journalism was never my strongest suit, either. You’re into PR? Hey, that’s a tough field. I’ve always admired people in the PR field. =) Congrats on you catching your teacher’s attention with your writing.
